There was a good crowd for the Roy Burfoot Handicap Mile and the social meeting that followed.

3 Gazelles went to Colchester to compete in the 4th round of the Essex. Pete Johnson was 78th overall and 6th in the V50 class. Tracy Stevenson was 42nd and Lisa Netto was 61st. The next race is January 3rd at Chingford, anyone who wants to race then and share transport please contact Tracy Stevenson or Paul Higham.

Paul Higham was first Gazelle in a very strong field at the Norwich Half Marathon, 45th in 1:22:22. John Moore was 88th and 6th in M45 in 1:26:06, Matt Green was 90th 7 seconds behind in 1:26:13. Nigel Bullen was 6th in M55, Carol Betts was 7th in F50, whilst in the F60's Marilyn Rankin was 7th, Sue Atkinson 8th and Jenny Burfoot 9th.
Also competing were Jason Kelf, Richard Gilham, Alison Fiddy, Eurwyn Jones, David Barclay, Ian Woods, Tracy Stevenson, Charlie Middleton, Stephen Browning, Lisa Netto, Jackie Harrop, Thirza Radford Gore, Marianne Saunders, Christine Bloomfield, Rosie Rogers and Helen Hunt.
These results meant that the Norfolk Gazelles Ladies Team of Carol Betts, Alison Fiddy and Tracy Stevenson were 5th (out of 20); the Gazelles Mens Team of Paul Higham, John Moore, Matt Green and Jason Kelf were 6th (also out of 20).

Anthony Gordon-Gray went all the way to Florence and had a miserable time (and it rained), finishing 6255 (out of 7202) in 4:38:56.

Steve Baldwin won the first race in the Norwich Road Runners 3 race cross-country series held at Horsford, in very cold conditions (Pete Thompson could not undo his frozen laces). Steve Corbould was 5th in M45/49, Pete Thompson was 2nd in M50/54, and Kevin Youngs won the M55/59 with Trevor Adcock 3rd.

Les Hill went to St Neots as the sole Gazelle running in the 905 strong field. He finished in 1:32:24 which gave him an official placing of 168, but he should have been half a dozen places higher on his chip time.

The Gazelles Mens Vets Team was 2nd in the County 10K Championships run as part of Coltishall Jaguars Autumn 10K. The team was made up of Pete Johnson, 16th in 38:09, John Moore 18th in 38:36, Nigel Arnold 29th in 39:58 and Trevor Adcock 39th in 41:53. Pete Johnson's performance also brought him 3rd place in the County Championship Mens 50-59 class. Debbie Moore was 2nd in the Ladies 40-49 in 47:11, which gave her 3rd place in the County Championship Ladies 40-49.
Also taking part were Julie London, Kim Lubbock, Alison Coad, Graham Hardingham and Matt Green (22nd in 38:54). A pleasure to see Nigel racing again.

Steve Baldwin won the second race, over 9K, in the Ryston Runners winter cross-country series, in a time of 29:49. Phil Cooper was 2nd in the Mens 45+ class in 32:18 (6th overall), Pete Thompson finished in 36:46 and Trevor Adcock was 3rd in the Mens 55+ in 38:55.

Kevin Hardingham went all the way to Boston (Lincs) to compete in the Poppy Run 5 Mile race and came away with a trophy for 3rd place in the Mens Vets 50+, in a time of 32:41. Kevin was 29th overall in a high class field (race won in 25:35).

Matt Varley and Jackie Harrop ran in the first Birmingham Half Marathon, on a course described as on the hilly side of undulating. Out of 6,932 finishers, Matt Varley was 28th in a personal best of 1:21:24. Jackie Harrop finished in 2:19:08. Photos at Marathon photos

Matt Green was the first Gazelle at the Gt Yarmouth 10K finishing 29th in 39:18. Kevin Hardingham (46th), Graham Hardingham (84th) and Richard Gilham (123rd) won the Mens 45+ Team prize. Anne Ellen was 2nd in the Ladies 50+ class and Linda Farrow was 3rd in the Ladies 60+. Sue Atkinson, Christine Bloomfield, Andrew Burrage, Carolyn Burrage, Helen Coyte-McKenzie, Hayley Gerrard and Tracy Stevenson also braved the elements. There were 389 finishers (and 48 Did not start/Did not finish).

3 Gazelles travelled the 57 miles to Wisbech for the Fenland 10 Miles race, with a good sized field. Pete Johnson was 2nd in the Mens 50+ class (13th overall) in 1:00:04, Lucy Cooper was 3rd in the Ladies 40+ in 1:14:46, and Les Hill also ran finishing with Lucy. There were 294 finishers.

36 Gazelles travelled to Kelling to run in the North Norfolk 7 Miler and so show their support for Jenny and their respect for the memory of Roy. Many Gazelles donated their entry fees to charity, so £54.50 was raised and has been sent to Roy's favourite charity, Big C.
Paul Higham was 7th in 42:59, Pete Johnson was 8th overall and 1st in the Mens 50-54 class in 43:05, and Matt Varley was 9th in 43:11. This meant Norfolk Gazelles won the Men's team prize. In the Ladies 50-54 class Carol Betts was 1st in 56:55, Jill Fisher 3rd in 1:06:14, Thirza Radford Gore 4th in 1:08:19 and Christine Bloomfield 5th in 1:09:47.
More important was the number of Gazelles who ran round with Jenny or joined her for the last few yards of the race.

Kevin Hardingham travelled out of the county to run in the Marlesham 10K. Despite the fun runners with their iPods Kevin was 1st in the Vets 50 class, and 29th overall, in a time of 40:52. There were 215 finishers.

Hayley Gerrad, Carol Hardy and Marianne Saunders ran in the Great Eastern Run half marathon at Peterborough. Despite the hot weather, Hayley finished in 2:08:36, Carol in 2:12:23 and Marianne was recorded at 2:12:24. There were 2702 finishers.

Paul Higham and Pete Johnson competed in the first race in this season's programmme of the Essex Cross-Country League at Loughton. In a strong field Paul was 52nd and Pete was 64th, 4th in the Vets 50 class. There were 179 runners in the field. The Club has paid for a Gazelles team entry for the series, anyone who would like to run in the other races please contact Paul.

Pete Johnson ran well to come 2nd in the Male Vets 50 class at the Tarpley 10 Mile race organmised by St Edmunds Pacers in a time of 1:00:49 (!), and 7th overall. There were 112 finishers.

Kevin Hardingham was first Gazelles home at the Wymondham Abbey 5K and 1st in the Mens 50+ class in a time of 19:31, and 12th overall. Graham Hardingham was 3rd in the Mens 45+ in 20:44 (25th overall).
Debbie Moore was 1st in the Ladies 40+ class in 22:42, Jill Fisher was 1st in the Ladies 50+ in 26:26, and Jennie Burfoot was 3rd in the Ladies 55+ in 28:00, with Marianne Saunders running in 26:37. As a result of these good times, Norfolk Gazelles won the Vet Ladies Team Prize. There were 114 finishers.

Tim Lenton was 3rd overall in the Wissey Half Marathon organised by Ryston Runners in 1:17:44. Pete Johnson was 1st in Mens 50+ class in 1:21:50 (11th overall), and Trevor Adcock was 3rd fastest in the Mens 55+ in 1:34:48. There were 198 finishers.

3 Gazelles ran in the Honington 10K which incorporated the RAF and Inter-Services Championship. Trevor Adcock, returning to racing after a lengthy spell of injury, was 1st in the V55 class in 42:02 (79th overall), Peter Thompson was 3rd in the V50 class in 41:11 (69th overall), and Les Hill was 89th in 42:34.

Paul Higham was the first Gazelle in a high class field at the third Wroxham 5K in 14th place in 16:45. Just behind, Mick Yaxley was 16th and 1st in the Mens 45-49 in 16:48 with Tim Lenton 17th in 16:48. Pete Johnson was 1st in the Mens 50-54 in 17:53. Debbie Moore was 2nd in the Ladies 40-44 in 23:18, Carol Hardy was 4th in the Ladies 45-49 in 25:45 and Linda Farrow was 4th in the Ladies 60+ in 27:51. Also running well were Del Bridges, Kevin Blackwell, Kevin Hardingham, Jason Kelf, Matthew Green, Peter Thompson, Tim Topper and Tracy Stevenson, with 300 finishers overall.

Pete Thompson was 1st Gazelle home in a very wet and muddy Reepham Summer Run 10K, 4th in class and 34th overall, in 42:44. Carolyn Poole was 2nd in her class in 54:17, Bridget Eastick was 3rd in her class in 54:47 and Sue Atkinson was 4th in her class in 1:02:48. Christine Bloomfield, Les Hill, Margaret McCartney and Stephen Corbould also ran, in a field of 211 finishers.

3 Gazelles set off in the Gt Yarmouth Half Marathon. Sadly Del Bridges had to pull up injured when running well. Anthony Gordon-Gray finished in 1:38:44, 55th overall and 2nd in the 60+ class, which won him the silver medal in his class in the county half-marathon championship. Richard Gilham finished in 1:51:44. There were 191 finishers.

21 Gazelles ran in the Worstead 5 Mile out of 330 finishers. Phil Cooper was the first Gazelle in 29:34, 2nd in the Mens 40-45 and 8th place overall. Steve Baldwin was 11th in 30:02 and Matt Varley was 12th in 30:03! Pete Thompson was 4th in the Mens 50-55 in 33:00 and Trevor Adcock (back from injury) was 4th in the Mens 55-60 in 34:49. Tracy Stevenson was 3rd in the Ladies 40-45 in 39:23 and Anne Ellen was 2nd, Carolyn Poole 4th and Carolyn Burrage 5th in the Ladies 50-55 in 40:37, 42:43 and 45:45 respectively. Steve Baldwin was first Gazelle home in 21:49 in 11th place in the Mike Groves Run organised by Coltishall Jaguars. Phil Cooper was 19th and 5th in the Mens Over 40 in 22:59. In the Mens Over 50, Pete Johnson was 3rd in 23:07 (20th overall), Peter Thompson was 5th in 23:48 and Kevin Hardingham 6th in 23:54.
Anne Ellen was first lady Gazelle to finish, coming 2nd in the Ladies Over 50 in 28:56, Linda Farrow was 3rd in the Ladies Over 60 in 32:50.

Tim Topper ran well to finish 3rd in 35:58 in the first of the Bungay Black Dog Summer Broome 10K series on 4th June (the only Gazelle running). There were 67 finishers. The second race was on 2nd July, the last is on 30th July.
Matt Varley was 15th in the Stourbridge Stumble, a 10K multi-terrain race, in 40:29. There were 259 finishers.

Steve Baldwin was 3rd in the 2nd Wroxham 5K in 16:22 and Paul Higham was 6th in 16:41. Mick Yaxley was 8th overall, and 1st in the Mens 45-49 class in 17:06. Debbie Moore was 1st in the Ladies 40-44 in 22:07, and together with Tracy Stevenson and Jackie Harrop won the Veteran Ladies team prize. Phil Cooper was 2nd in the Mens 40-44 in 17:49. Steve Baldwin was 3rd overall in the first of the Wroxham 5K series in 16:26, Mick Yaxley was 1st in the Mens 45-49 in 17:09 and Anne Ellen was 1st in the Ladies 50-54 in 24:35.
Norfolk Gazelles won the Senior Mens Team Prize - Steve Baldwin, Paul Higham (5th), Tim Topper (9th), Matt Varley (22nd): the Veteran Mens Team Prize - Mick Yaxley (1st, 7th overall), Phil Cooper (3rd, 14th overall), Jason Kelf (13th, 44th) Peter Thompson (17th, 50th): and the Veteran Ladies Team Prize - Jackie Harrop (10th in class), Tracy Stevenson (11th), Anne Ellen (12th).
Also running were Chris Baldwin, Linda Farrow, Matthew Green, Carol Hardy, Jon Kelf, Graham Hardingham, Kevin Hardingham and Jane Moore, making a total of 19 Gazelles. There were 266 finishers, next race 25th June.

At the Dereham 10 Mile, which was also the Norfolk County 10 Mile Chamionships, Pete Johnson was 15th overall, 1st in the Mens 50+, and Norfolk 50+ mens champion, in 60:21. Anthony Gordon-Gray was 4th in the mens 60+, and placed 3rd in the county championship (but only 85th overall). Carolyn Poole was 4th in the ladies 50+ class, Jackie Harrop 5th in the ladies 45+, and Sue Atkinson was 5th in the ladies 60+. Christine Bloomfield, Jason Kelf, Jon Kelf, Charlie Middleton, Peter Thompson and Tim Topper also ran. Overall there were 252 finshers.

Norfolk Gazelles entered 4 teams for the Jaguars Spring relay. Mick Yaxley, Jason Kelf and Phil Cooper won the Male Masters, with Kevin Hardingham, Graham Hardingham and Anthony Gordon-Gray 2nd. Tracy Stevenson, Carolyn Poole and Jackie Harrop won the Ladies Masters, Paul Higham, Del Bridges and Phil Cooper were 2nd in the Senior Mens. Linda Farrow and Anne Ellen ran in a renegade team.
In the individual 5K, Peter Thompson was 5th in 20:00, and Debbie Moore was 1st lady home in 22:07.

Phil Cooper was again the first Gazelle in the second of the Great Yarmouth 5 Mile three race series, this time improved at 11th in 28:58, whilst Pete Johnson was 16th overall and 2nd in the 50-59 class in 30:01. Carol Betts, Kevin Blackwell, Christine Bloomfield, Anne Ellen, Linda Farrow, Hayley Gerrard, Richard Gilham, Graham Hardingham, Kevin Hardingham, Leslie Hill, Charlie Middleton and Peter Thompson all ran among the 202 finishers.

Out of a total of 1693 finishers in the Great East Anglia, 10K Steve Baldwin was 8th overall in 34:26, Paul Higham 14th in 35:15, Tim Topper 26th in 36:16 and Pete Johnson 31st overall and 4th in the 50-59 class in 37:04. These results won first place in the Mens Club Team competition.
Tracy Stevenson was first Gazelle lady home in 52:10 - with Carol Hardy, Marianne Neave and Hayley Gerrard the Ladies team was 7th.
Chris Baldwin, Jason Black, Christine Bloomfield, Doug Bridges, Helen Coyte-McKenzie, Basil Crisp, Jason Kelf, Rosie Rogers and Jeremy Sandford also ran, making 17 Gazelles in all.

In atrocious conditions, Jason Kelf was 32nd in the Bungay Black Dog Marathon, and 12th in the Mens Veteran 40 class, in a time of 3:21:36; Doug Bridges was 78th in 3:42:43, out of 197 finishers. In the Half Marathon, Jon Kelf was 72nd in 1:37:13, David Barclay and Anthony Gordon-Gray also ran, there were 373 finishers.

Nigel Arnold and Pete Johnson had great results in the 50-54 yrs class at the national British Masters Athletic Federation championships held as part of the Nationwide Bath Half Marathon. Nigel was 2nd in VM50 class and 85th overall in 1:16:38 out of a toal of 10054 finishers. Pete Johnson was 5th in the class in 1:19:37 and 135th overall.

Tim Lenton Paul Higham and Matthew Green won the Senior Mens Team prize at the Wymondham 10 Mile race, and Nigel Arnold Mick Yaxley and Pete Johnson won the Veteran Mens prize. Tim Lenton was 3rd overall in 58:53, Nigel Arnold was 1st Vet home and 5th overall in 59:39, Mick Yaxley was 6th, Paul Higham 7th and Pete Johnson 8th.
Sue Atkinson, Chris Baldwin, Steve Baldwin, Andrew Burrage, Carolyn Burrage, Linda Farrow, Anne Ellen, Anthony Gordon-Gray, Rosemary Rogers, Tracy Stevenson and Peter Thompson also ran amongst the 219 finishers.
Also, Barbara Gaylor, Jason Kelf, Hazel Laddiman, Jane Moore and John Moore ran in the 20 Mile race.

John Moore was 1st Gazelle at the Great East Run in 1:23:43 for the 20K, just ahead of Matthew Green in 1:24:52 and Suzannah Brooks in 1:26:31. Sue Atkinson, Andrew Burrage,Richard Gilham, Jackie Harrop, Leslie Hill, Charlie Middleton,Carolyn Poole and Peter Thompson also ran. There were 540 finishers.

Congratulations to Kevin Youngs on becoming Norfolk Road Runner for the year 2007 with an 85% age grading. This was based on Wroxham 5K, Great Yarmouth Half-Marathon, Dereham 10 Miles and the Great Eastern 10K.
Kevin also received the Peter Andrews Award, again with an 85% age grading, for the Wissey Valley Half-Marathon and the Fenland 10K.
Just remember Kevin is 59 years young......top of page

Paul Higham was 7th in the Wymondham New Year's Day 10k in a time of 35:59, Matt Varley was 14th. Pete Johnson was 1st in the Men's 50-54 in 37:49 and Kevin Youngs was 3rd in the Men's 55-59 in 38:34. Catherine Jordan was 2nd in the Ladies' 50-54 in 45:47. Sue Atkinson, Carol Betts, David Betts, Jason Black, Kevin Blackwell, Jennie Burfoot, Linda Farrow, Hayley Gerrard, Richard Gilham, Kevin Hardingham, Hazel Laddiman, Jane Moore, David Peacock, Carolyn Poole and Peter Thompson also ran amongst the 349 finishers.
