Tim Topper with his dog Poppy won the Boxing Day Groggy Doggy cross-country organised by Bungay Black Dog, where runners have the option of competing with or without a dog for the one lap competition (there is also a two lap race intended to be dog-less).
As regards the benefit of running with a dog, I can do no better than share Tim's email -
"Some people would think having a dog to pull you along is an advantage but those who attended this race and saw me a) get pulled into the river and both me and the dog go completely under b) see me trip over my dog on 3-4 occasions or c)have to carry the dog over a stye, will know that anyone with a dog was extremely disadvantaged.
I was the fastest home on the one lap course (for both individuals and dog handlers) and I was fourth overall (inc 2 lap runners) when I finished. I was leading halfway round until I spent 30 secs in the river!"
